There is only one goal that food has. Food provides the opportunity to do more.
Often, we look at food solely as a means of pleasure. We see past the true nature of its being. It doesn’t exist so we can become tubs of lard. It doesn’t exist so we can sustain mediocrity. Foods can be pleasureful, but it’s intent is to fuel us to do the things that bring about pleasure.
A Meal Equals an Opportunity
Which impacts your pleasure-o-meter (yep, made that up) more: a donut or achieving a life long goal?
If you answered donut, we definitely have some work to do. 😉
Obviously, the answer should be a life long goal brings about more pleasure. However, we fall to the powers of the taste buds more often the the pleasures of our dreams. Our meals are our opportunity to do more through fuel, yet our pleasure choices seem to be looking at the short term rather than the long term.
You might be asking how in the world a meal is an opportunity. A meal gives us the strength, endurance, development, and energy to accomplish amazing things. However, what we put into that meal can either make accomplishing our dreams a reality or bring about failure.
Looking at Your Meal
When you look at the meal in front of you, do you see opportunity or do you see failure? It might seem harsh to ask this question, but your answer will often lead you to making better choices.
When planning your next meal, ask yourself whether this meal will fuel or crack you. It might sound stupid to be looking at food this way, but it can change everything about your diet and health.
One Meal
Try not to over-think this. Just work on one meal, preferably your next. How can you make that meal better fuel you?
Prior to getting in great shape, I would say I had a pretty good diet. Except I didn’t. It wasn’t until I started breaking my meals down individually that I started to see where I could correct and improve upon my meal selections. I didn’t look at everything I ate. I just looked at one meal at a time. Don’t let your diet overwhelm you or it will win. Tackle it piece by piece until you can honestly say you have a pretty good diet.
I’d love to hear in the comments what one meal you have corrected (pre and post analyzing).
